Hello - I’m Gary Elrod

I’m a 14-year resident of Berkley, proud Berkley High graduate, and now a homeowner for the past 8 years. Having lived in this city through three chapters of my life, as a student, renter, and homeowner, I bring a unique perspective on what makes Berkley special. I’m running for City Council to ensure transparent, fiscally responsible leadership that strengthens our neighborhoods, supports green space and recreation, and keeps Berkley the welcoming community we all love.

Why I’m Running

I will work to keep Berkley’s government transparent, fiscally responsible, and responsive to residents. My focus is on improving infrastructure, expanding green spaces and recreation, and fostering community engagement. Drawing on my business leadership and volunteer service with the Tree Board and Beautification Committee, I bring a people-first perspective committed to thoughtful growth while preserving Berkley’s character.

Berkley High Class of 1992

Full head of hair back in the day but still a head full of ideas today. I alone in this race understand the various life stages of living in Berkley with a view that spans decades.

And yes, I’m a Berkley High graduate, something no one on City Council has been able to claim in at least the past 15 years. While I know a diploma alone doesn’t qualify someone to serve, my perspective as a longtime Berkley resident, first as a student, then returning to rent in my 20s, and now making it my permanent home in my 40s, gives me a unique lens on how far our city has come and where it can go next.

This understanding can be powerful. It reminds us of what connects us, beyond political talking points, beyond the divisions we see at the national level.

This is a nonpartisan race, and I believe our community works best when we bring people together to get things done. Whether you’ve lived here for decades or just moved in, we share the same city, the same streets, and the same opportunities to make Berkley even better.

I’m ready to do that work. Please join me in this journey.
